Best Sarasota Souvenirs: What to Bring Home and How to Pack It

Every trip ends the same way: you want something that brings Sarasota back the moment you see it, and you need it to fit in your bag. We sell souvenirs on St. Armands Circle every day, so this guide covers the best Sarasota souvenirs to bring home, which ones pack flat in a carry-on, which ones are better shipped, and a few local finds worth seeking out beyond our shop.

Sarasota Souvenirs at a Glance

  • Best overall: something with the name of the island you actually stayed on, like Lido Key, Longboat Key or Siesta Key.
  • Packs flat: tees, caps, stickers, magnets and drink huggies.
  • Carry-on rule: liquids, gels and creams must be 3.4 ounces (100 ml) or less per container and fit in one quart-size bag. Larger sunscreen goes in your checked bag.
  • Too bulky to carry? We ship to US addresses, with free standard shipping on orders of $75 or more. Orders ship within 2 business days.
  • Local finds: the Sarasota Farmers Market downtown on Saturday mornings and the museum shops at The Ringling.
  • Shells: empty shells are fine to take home. Taking a shell with a living animal inside needs a Florida saltwater fishing license.

What Makes a Good Souvenir

The souvenirs people actually keep and use have two things in common: they say exactly where you were, and you'll wear or use them at home. A generic "Florida" shirt could have come from any airport. A Lido Key cap tells everyone you spent your mornings on one particular beach.

That's why most of what we make carries the name of a specific key. Visitors tend to spend their trip on one or two islands, and people get attached to theirs. If you split your week between beaches, a design that maps all of them is the easy answer.

Souvenirs by Island: Lido, Longboat, Siesta and The Keys

Lido Key

Lido is the beach just past St. Armands Circle, so it's the island most of our visitors see. The Lido Key Tee is our best-selling Lido shirt, and the Lido Key Cap in navy is a souvenir you'll actually use on the beach before you take it home. Browse the full Lido Key collection.

Longboat Key

Longboat is the quieter, longer island to the north, and its fans are loyal. For a souvenir with some weight to it, the Longboat Timber Crew sweatshirt is one you'll reach for on cool nights back home. The Longboat Key Tee is the simple everyday option. See the Longboat Key collection.

Siesta Key

Siesta is famous for its white quartz sand, and our Siesta Key caps are the favorite way to remember it. The Siesta Key Cap Meshy White is the classic, and there are navy, sand and scarlet versions in the Siesta Key collection.

Can't pick one key?

The Keys Tee has a map of the keys on it, so it covers Lido, Longboat and Siesta in one shirt. It's a good choice for couples who stayed on one island and spent their days on another.

Souvenirs That Pack Flat in a Carry-On

If you're flying home with only a carry-on, these take up almost no room:

  • Stickers. A Lido Key Sticker or Longboat Key Mini Sticker slips into a book or laptop sleeve, and it ends up on a water bottle or cooler for years.
  • Magnets. The Sarasota Wood Magnet is flat and light, an easy pick for the fridge or for a coworker.
  • Drink huggies. The Sarasota Huggie Flat folds down to nothing and keeps a drink cold back home.
  • Caps. Wear it on the plane and it takes no luggage space at all. See all hats and visors.
  • Tees. Roll them and tuck them along the edges of your bag.

Our tip: buy your souvenirs early in the trip, not on the last afternoon. You get to wear them while you're here, and you won't be rushing to the shop on the way to the airport.

What to Check, What to Ship

Some favorites don't love a carry-on. A few things to know before you pack:

  • Liquids. The TSA liquids rule limits carry-on containers to 3.4 ounces (100 ml) each, all in one quart-size bag. Full-size sunscreen, hot sauce or local honey belongs in a checked bag.
  • Water bottles. An empty bottle like the Sarasota Water Bottle can go through security. Just empty it first and refill it at the gate.
  • Breakables and bulky items. A Sarasota coffee mug or beach towel takes up room you may not have.

The easy fix is to shop online after you get home. We ship anywhere in the US, standard shipping is free on orders of $75 or more, and orders ship within 2 business days. If you're still in town, order online and choose free in-store pickup on St. Armands Circle. Pickup orders are usually ready within 24 hours.

Local Finds Beyond Our Shop

A good souvenir haul mixes a few things. Two local spots we send people to:

  • Sarasota Farmers Market. Every Saturday, rain or shine, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., centered at Main Street and Lemon Avenue downtown. You'll find local produce, plants and artisans. Anything in a jar is a checked-bag item.
  • The Ringling. The museum shops at The Ringling carry circus-themed gifts and books, a nice choice for anyone who loved the museum. Check the museum's website for current shop hours.

Can You Take Shells Home From Sarasota?

Yes, if they're empty. Shells are the most local souvenir there is, and they're free. The rule from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is simple: if a shell has a living animal inside, or is a living animal like a sand dollar or sea star, you need a Florida saltwater fishing license to take it, plus you have to follow local limits. Some species can't be taken at all. When in doubt, leave it on the beach.

Rinse your shells, let them dry completely, and wrap them in a T-shirt for the trip home. For where to look, see our guide to shelling in Sarasota.
