We run a shop on St. Armands Circle, so we get the same handful of questions all the time. Where do I park? Is there a bathroom? Can I walk to the beach from here? What's actually worth buying? This guide answers all of them, so you can spend less time figuring things out and more time enjoying one of the prettiest little shopping districts in Florida.
St. Armands Circle at a Glance
- What it is: a ring of more than 130 shops and restaurants around a palm-lined park, on St. Armands Key between downtown Sarasota and Lido Key.
- Parking: a city garage at 57 N. Adams Drive plus metered street parking. Details below.
- Free parking: street parking is free on Sundays and outside 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. the rest of the week.
- Restrooms: public restrooms are in the parking garage.
- Beach: Lido Beach is a short walk or trolley ride away.
- From the airport: about 6 miles, roughly 20 to 25 minutes by car.
How the Circle Is Laid Out
St. Armands is a big roundabout. John Ringling Boulevard and Boulevard of the Presidents cross in the middle, which splits the shops into four sections around the central park. Most visitors walk the outer ring and stop there, but some of the best spots are on the side streets that branch off each section. Give yourself time to walk all the way around, then wander a block down each boulevard.
Parking on St. Armands Circle
Parking is the number one question we get, and the rules changed a few times in 2026, so here's how it works now.
The garage (easiest option). The St. Armands Parking Garage is at 57 N. Adams Drive, just off the Circle, with about 480 spaces. Your first hour is free once you register your license plate on the parking app or at the meter. After that, the city charges a small hourly rate. There are EV charging spots on level 2.
Street parking. Spaces around the Circle are metered at $1.50 an hour from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Sundays are free.
Our advice: on a busy winter weekend, skip the hunt and go straight to the garage. Park once, then walk everywhere, including the beach. City parking rates can change, so check the posted signs when you arrive.
Skip the Car: The Free Bay Runner Trolley
If you're staying downtown, the free, open-air Bay Runner trolley runs from Main Street over the Ringling Bridge, around St. Armands Circle and out to Lido Beach. It's a great way to see the bay, and you never have to think about parking. Check SarasotaBayRunner.com for the current schedule before you go.
Shopping on St. Armands Circle
You'll find resort wear, boutiques, art, jewelry, home decor, toys, sweets and plenty of beach gear. A few tips from our side of the counter:
- Shop early, eat late. Mornings are the calmest time to browse. The Circle gets busier from lunch through sunset.
- Buy beach gear here, not at the beach. Sunscreen, hats and sunglasses are easy to grab on the Circle on your way to Lido.
- Look for things you can't get at home. The best souvenirs say exactly where you were.
Souvenirs That Say Exactly Where You Were
That last tip is why we opened The Sarasota Style at 410 St. Armands Circle. Most visitors spend their trip on one or two of Sarasota's keys, so we make apparel and hats with each island's own logo:
- Lido Key, the beach right down the road. The Lido Key Tee is our best-selling Lido shirt. Shop Lido Key.
- Longboat Key, the quieter island just north of Lido. The Longboat Key Mock Neck is perfect for breezy winter evenings. Shop Longboat Key.
- Siesta Key, famous for its white quartz sand to the south. Our Siesta Key caps, like the Meshy trucker in white, are a favorite. Shop Siesta Key.
- Can't pick one? The Sarasota Performance Keys Long Sleeve has a map of the keys on it, and it's also a lightweight sun shirt.
Need something small to tuck in a suitcase? Stickers, drink huggies and hats pack flat and make easy gifts for the people back home.
Where to Eat and Grab a Treat
- Columbia Restaurant. The St. Armands location opened in 1959 and is known as Sarasota's oldest restaurant. It's part of a family business that started in Tampa's Ybor City in 1905. Order the 1905 Salad.
- Kilwins. Fudge, chocolate and ice cream on John Ringling Boulevard. Walking the Circle with a cone is practically a tradition.
- Tommy Bahama Restaurant. Island-style food and drinks, back open since 2025.
Lunch outside under the palms is part of the experience, so pick a spot with a patio if the weather is nice. It usually is.
A Little History (and a Scavenger Hunt for Kids)
Circus legend John Ringling bought this land in 1917 and planned a grand shopping district with Italian-style gardens and statues. It opened in 1926, just before the Florida land boom went bust, and didn't really fill with shops until the 1950s. The name comes from Charles St. Amand, an early homesteader, misspelled along the way.
Two things to look for while you walk:
- The statues in the center park, in the classical style Ringling loved. There's also a life-size statue of Ringling himself.
- The Circus Ring of Fame, more than 150 bronze plaques around the Circle honoring famous circus performers. New members are added every January. Make it a game for the kids: who can find the most?
Events Worth Planning Around
- December: the Christmas tree lighting, usually the first Friday of the month, free and with a visit from Santa.
- January: the Winter Art Festival and Sidewalk Sale.
- Memorial Day weekend: the Fine Art Festival.
- June: the Craft Festival.
Dates change each year, so check the St. Armands Circle Association's calendar before you go.
Is St. Armands Open After the Hurricanes?
Yes. Hurricanes Helene and Milton flooded the Circle in 2024, and it took a long time to rebuild. Most shops and restaurants have reopened, and the Circle is lively again. A few storefronts are still being renovated, so if you have your heart set on a specific place, check its hours before you visit.
A Perfect St. Armands and Lido Day
- 9 a.m.: park in the garage while it's quiet, or take the trolley in.
- Morning: coffee and a slow loop around the Circle. Shop while it's calm.
- Noon: lunch on a patio.
- Afternoon: walk over to Lido Beach with your new hat and sunscreen.
- Sunset: watch it from the sand, since Lido faces west over the Gulf.
- Evening: back to the Circle for dinner and ice cream.
